First 77 words of the document:

Catalysts lower the activation energy
A catalyst is a substance which changes the speed of a
reaction, without being changed or used up in the reaction.
Catalysts lower the activation energy needed for the
reactions to happen by providing alternative routes.
The effect of a catalyst is shown by the lower curve on the
diagram the overall energy change for the reactions, H
remains the same.
