Apple (Silicon Valley)
Silicon Valley is in Northern California, with the
region's largest number of silicon chip innovators and
manufacturers. Apple was established on 1st April 1976
and incorporated on January 3rd 1977.
The high technology industry is located in
Silicon Valley as it is near to major road
systems and airports (for internal transport
and also international trade). There is also
plenty of space for development and future
expansion. Silicon Valley is near to large cities
but the land values are still low. Nearby are
some universities including some of the most
scientific and technological centre's in the
Apple has about 35,000 employees worldwide and had worldwide annual sales of
US$42.91 billion in September 26, 2009.
Apple's world corporate headquarters are in the
middle of Silicon Valley. This Apple campus has six
buildings that total 79,000 m2.
The "Mac" (Macintosh) initially sold poorly, and
Jobs (Steve Jobs was a founder) left the company
in 1985, but eventually it found its niche in the
desktop publishing market. Meanwhile,
Microsoft's Windows operating system eroded
Apple's market share. Apple recalled Jobs in 1997.
He returned the company to profitability by introducing more innovative products,
such as the iMac. After this the business carried on rising till today.
