Carbon monoxide ­ a compound of one carbon atom and one
oxygen atom, CO, it is formed by the
incomplete combustion of carbon and carbon
compounds, carbon monoxide is colourless,
odourless and poisonous
Combustion ­ burning of a substance with oxygen to release
energy, another word for burning
Complete combustion ­ when a substance burns in a plentiful
supply of air or oxygen to release the
maximum amount of energy
Incomplete combustion ­ when substance burn in an insufficient
amount of air or oxygen, it results in less
energy release and possible soot and / or
carbon monoxide
Pollution ­ the presence in the environment of substances that
are harmful to living things
Toxicity ­ a measure of how poisonous a substance is
