First 178 words of the document:

Biological approach = mental disorders are caused by abnormal psychological
processes: Brain damage
Biochemistry
Genetics
Infection
Brain damage = born with structural differences or an accident or tumour e.g.
Craig &
Catani (2009) "Brain differences in psychopaths have been
identified"
Biochemistry = depression has been linked with lack of serotonin
Genetics = hereditary mental illnesses e.g. McGuffin (1996) found a 46%
concordance rate in schizophrenia in identical twins
Infection = in the womb where foetus is exposed to an infection e.g. 14% of
schizophrenia cases may be linked to exposure of flu (Brown 2004)
or
infection contracted after birth
Evaluation = + supporting evidence (Brown, McGuffin & Craig and Catani)
+ uses scientific techniques such as brain scans
reductionist as it ignores the other approaches
all supporting evidence is natural experiments or correlations so
do
not prove cause and effect
deterministic
(THESE POINTS WILL HAVE TO BE EXPLAINED IN MORE DEPTH TO
GET MARKS but these are the general points)
