Beliefs about God.
Christians are monotheists- they believe in one God.
God is holy. This means he is special, separate and different.
God of the Torah and the god of the Old Testament are both the same.
The trinity
The doctrine of the trinity is unique to Christianity.
God is three things- the father, the son and the Holy Spirit. All part of one god.
Nicene Creed (Christian statement of faith) says....
`we believe in one god, the father, the almighty, maker of heaven and earth.'
`we believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only son of God. Eternally begotten of the father, true god
from true god, begotten not made, of one being with the Father. `
`we believe in the Holy spirit, the lord the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the son. With
the father and the son he is worshipped and glorified. He has spoken through the Prophet.
God the son= god came to earth as a human being. He was born of Mary
and called Jesus. This belief is the incarnation. Jesus taught people what life
would be like in the kingdom of God. The kingdom of God is an inner change
of heart and a symbol of peace on earth. Jesus Christ taught people about
god and showed them what god was like. Jesus was put to death on the
cross. This was the crucifixion. Christianity says that because Jesus (the
son=a part of the trinity of god) chose to die because he loved humanity
and wanted to save them so all people were forgiven for their sins so could
go to heaven. This was called the atonement.
The resurrection death was not the end for Jesus, he rose from his tomb on the third day. He is a living
savior and relevant to us today
The holy spirit- present at the creation. Symbolized as a dove (peace), wind (power), fire (purification)
and water (life giving.) there to guide Christians through life. Helps and inspires Christians when on earth.
Jesus called it the `paraclete, which means guide and comforter. The holy spirit is present in the lives of
The father= he created everything and sustains the universe. Christians are helped by thinking God is a
father because it shows he Is looking after them and cares about them,
