THE HOPE TRIAL
Aim:
To see how effective ramipril prevents
cardiovascular death, stroke, and MI heart failure and the
development of diabetes
Method:
A total of 9297 patients were randomly assigned to receive ramipril
(ACE inhibitor) or placebo for a duration of 5years.
Results:
In the placebo treatment group there was a small
reduction in MI, stroke, and cardiovascular death.
In the ramipril treatment group there was a blood pressure reduction
and an average reduction in systolic blood pressure.
The benefits on stroke and MI reduction achieved in the appear to be
far greater than what would be expected from blood pressure
reduction alone.…read more
