  • Increase in taxes to pay for foreign Adventures and war

  • Instability in Kent caused by Shake up in office holding
  • Fear of Philip affecting job opportunities in court
  • RELIGOUS
  • Didn't want Catholicism or return of papul authoruity
  • Rebels were mostly protestant from areas such as Maidstone, Kent
  • Mary quickly replaced nobles with responsibility with Catholics

Effects

  • 90-100 rebels executed
  • Wyatt, lady Jane Grey and her husband (both innocent) were executed
  • 600 rebels freed as Paget urged leniency  to show true religous values
  • Princess Elizabeth spared, after being arrested February 9th and being under house arrest and a brief stay in prison
  • People dipped handkerchiefs in Wyatt's blood
  • Philip more reluctant to marry her.
  • Married 20th July 1554
  • Philip was resented by the British
  • 25th July remained at court to fulfil duties as Husband and king

Overall summary

Overall the Wyatt rebellion showed how Mary was encouraged to be lenient however was happy to execute everyone who opposed her with no mercy. However there was a lot of opposition to Mary from many different aspects such as religion to her Political views.
