Wind, Tidal & Solar - For & Against

Advantages

  • no atmospheric pollution
  • renewable energy source
  • no fuel costs

Disadvantages

  • new technology - issues need to be resolved
  • low energy content
  • not always reliable
  • is a carbon footprint
  • appearance

Evaluation

On the one hand, these renewable sources will never run out like fossil fuels or nuclear power. There are no fuel costs & no atmospheric pollution. There is however a 'carbon footprint' so these sources are not as eco-friendly as we would like them to be, but they are better than the other fuels we use. Also their energy content is low so a lot of the generators are needed (wind farms,) & it is not a reliable source as it is not always windy or sunny. Some people object to the appearance to some of these generators as they believe it will destroy the look of the countryside or will cause disruptions with the noise the generator make. In conclusion, these renewable sources will always be at our disposal so we should try and use them more so that we can save our planet, but their energy content will be a problem.
