Similarities
- Both are separated from other branches
- Both have security of tenure and fixed salaries, ensuring independence

Differences
- In US judges are nominated by President whereas in UK they are nominated by JAC
- UK SC cannot override elected branches
- As US constitution is entrenched and codified, SC is more important in interpretation
- In UK SC can issue declaration of incompatibility with ECHR whereas in US it is ruled as 'unconstitutional'
- SC is the final court of appeal in US but in UK citizens can appeal onwards to ECJ and ECHR
- US Supreme Court is split on ideological lines
- US Supreme Court more socially representative
