Ultrasound

Advantages

Readily available
Can be used on pregnant women
Non ionising radiation - not harmful
Quick imaging
Clear images of soft tissues
Can see moving parts
Can measure flow

Disadvantages

Hard to recognise bones
Poor imaging of tissues containing air - e.g lungs
Image resolution is poor - not as good as X-rays

Evaluation

Ultrasound - high frequency (above the range of human hearing) longitudinal sound wavesIt can be used for pregnancy scans, soft tissue injuries, heart or blood vessel problems
