Tissue vs Ozymandias

Similarities

  • Both present the power and superiority of nature. Nature is eternal so can easily outlive humanity.
  • Both explore the power of humanity's legacy.
  • Man is presented as erroneously believing he has control over nature.

Differences

  • Tissue more talks about the power and fragility of human life.
  • Ozymandias displays that human arrogance can corrupt.

Overall comparison

Both poems present the ignorance and nativity of man. Man believes he can be more superior than nature, yet nature is an eternal force whereas, humanity will die and become forgotten. Tissue conveys the importance of humanity to recognise its fragility but also its power. Mankind has power but it will not last forever; humanity has the desire to control so we use paper as a way of controlling the natural world: through maps, which segregate and divide the world into however man wishes. Ozymandias on the other hand, displays that human arrogance can corrupt. Like in Tissue, nature is presented as a superior force however, Ozymandias depicts the fall of power and mortality for mankind if we fail to recognise that nature is more powerful than we'll ever be, no matter how much money or status we have.
