Overall comparisonEddie and Rodolpho are both linked to Beatrice. She is Eddie's wife and Rodolpho is her cousin. They both work hard as Eddie is a longshoreman and he works hard for his family. Rodolpho also works hard because he travels so far to try and get work in America as his country is poor. Eddie is very protective over Catherine which could be seen as ambiguous, is it paternal or is it because he wants her for himself? Rodolpho also becomes protective over Catherine when he falls in love with her and it becomes clear when Eddie kisses her as he shouts "get off her! have some respect!". There are many differences between the role of Eddie and the role of Rodolpho as Rodolpho is outgoing and likes to express his feelings whereas Eddie denies his feelings and likes to put himself across as very 'masculine'. He mocks Rodolpho as he likes to sing, cook and make dresses which he sees as 'girlie' and he assumes he is a homosexual because of it. |
