the euthanasia debate - religious views

  • others believe that people have a right to self determination - should have control when their life ends
  • buddism - if intention is merciful it could be allowed.
  • (some) Christianity - a loving god would not want his people to suffer; God-given free will and intelligence give a person the the right to choose when to end their life when its quality is greatly reduced.

Disadvantages

  • it is currently illegal as it is seen as assisting suicide
  • buddism - creates bad karma (breaks first precept); suffering is a fact of life that must be accepted

Some people within their religions interpret it in different ways. Both some buddists and Christians believe both the fact that euthanasia can be allowed and not allowed. it is allowed on both primarily due to mercy and the quality of life .
