EvaluationThey are an independent body so are free from any influences such as government parties. Their commissioners are legally trained so have a good understanding of the law, meaning that their research is likely to be thorough and the government are more likely to accept their reports. They have also had considerable success - with statutes such as the Matrimonial Causes Act, the Criminal Justice Act, etc. On the other hand, the process is lengthy - Offences Against The Person Act took 5 years to finalize. Their workload is also heavy, as they can be reviewing up to 20-30 areas of law at one time. Money and time can also be wasted, on researching areas of law that may never even be implemented. |
