  • he stood up to his hardliners in his own government and his critics
  • he took no personal credit - looks like a humble peacemaker by saying he respects Khrushchev
  • He is remembered as bringing the 'thaw' to the cold war ( calmed it down )
  • 1963 treaty between America and Russia which banned testing missiles

Disadvantages

  • Cuba is still communist
  • Have to take the missiles from turkey
  • policy of containment failed

Evaluation

in conclusion the usa won the missile crisis because it made him look like an overall good person by standing up to what he believed, taking no personal credit and bringing a thaw to the cold war by making the right decisions. however he did not win because his policy of containment failed and cuba is still communist
