Advantages

  • High resolution
  • High magnification

Disadvantages

  • Specimens must be extremely thin
  • Everything must be in a vacuum
  • No living organisms can be seen
  • Specimen must be stained
  • Image is in black and white

Evaluation

The TEM can be used to build up a 3D image using a series of photomicrographs with a high resolution, however this takes time, the specimen is not alive and the image is in black and white.
