Situation Ethics: Helpful method of moral decision making?

Advantages

  • Teleological-ends can justify means
  • Relativist-takes into account complexity of situation
  • Can be adapted to modern times
  • Anyone can follow

Disadvantages

  • Difficult as the only guideline is love
  • Subjective-love differs from person to person
  • Motivation could be self-interest
  • Some actions are intrinsically wrong
  • Could lead to a lack of respect for rules
  • Outcomes can't be predicted

Evaluation

Situation Ethics has a concept that appears to be perfect at first glance-who doesn't want to spread love? However, it becomes more problematic when you peel back the layers. It is often difficult to follow, as well as outcomes being hard to predict.
