similarities and differences between slavery and segregation

Similarities

  • one similarity is that black people in both situations were treated badly and were seperate to white people. If they (whites) were caught helping black people or blacks talking to whites with disrespect, the blacks were kiled. if whites helped backs the blacks would get whipped or worse until they were half dead first before being shot. this shows they were apartheid
  • Also in both situations loads of black people died, mainly it wasn't there fault but they were killed anyway, this involves lynching where a bunch of white people gang up on a black person to hang them if the black person is too proud or out of line with the expectations.
  • Another similarity is that they were hanged and there homes were poor and run down. This shows they weren't looked after and treated propily, they had no electricity, no running water, no toilets, mould, peeling wallpaper and they were shabby.

Differences

  • But there were some differences such as in segregation they had an education were as in slavery they just had to work all day and they didn't get an education so they couldn't get a job.
  • In segregatoin they had freedom, to an extent because they could leave the town were as in slavery you couldn't leave and you had to stay in the feild.
  • in slavery black people were phisically branded with hot iron inishials to signify that they were owned by someone. in segregation coloured people were verbily branded and owned.

Overall comparison

although in both situations black people were treated teribly and labeled, there were some differences either way segregation and slavery were both a tragic and terible time in history and should never be repeated ever again.
