SEXUAL vs. ASEXUAL

Advantages

  • variation in offspring
  • variation increases survival rate
  • offspring more likely to breed successfully- natural selection
  • selective breeding to speed up natural selection
  • e.g could selectively breed healthy cows to increase food production

Disadvantages

  • one parent
  • organisms don't need to find a mate
  • less energy and faster than sexual
  • many identical offspring can be produced in favourable conditions
