Promotion: Stage Models Critique

Advantages

Motivational interviewing is non-confrontational and helps the individual take control
Stage-matched interventions increase personalisation of interventions and thus increases applicability - Waste less time and more effective
Can be used across a wide range of health behaviours

Disadvantages

Motivational interviewing doesn't always lead to health promotion
Cannot be applied to a population level
The stages may be created by the interviewing questions and not actually reflect the individual's processes of health behaviour

Evaluation

Useful for increasing applicability of other interventions, however they don't always promote health
