Positives and negatives with the behaviourist approach

Advantages

  • It was fashionable at the time.
  • There is objective and verifiable evidence

Disadvantages

  • It's overstating the case that everything is learned when we have genetics.
  • There is no psychological explanation.

Evaluation

When it comes to the behaviourist approach which says that we learn attachment. A positive is that there is objective and verifiable evidence for it since we can see peoples behaviour. However, we must remember that it is hard to say that ALL things are learnt since we now have evidence and a greater understanding of genetics. Another problem with the behaviourist approach is that we don't get to look at the psychological side of things. However, we must remember that when the behaviourist approach was made it was pretty fashionable at the time.
