Coastal Processes

Ice Processes

  • Waves can erode(break down rocks) to for cliffs and arches; transport(move rocks from place to place) and deposit(drop rocks) to form beaches.
  • During colder periods (in the past) huge rivers of ice(glaciers) and ice sheets formed. The ice acts like a bulldozer forming "U" shaped valleys and the glaciers carve deep basins in the valleys, which after they melt become deep lakes.

Mountain Processes

River Processes

  • Mountains are taller and steeper than hills(more than 600 meters in height). Fold mountains are formed when 2 tectonic plates collide (smash) together, causing the crust to fold and push upwards forming tall mountains.
  • Rivers push stones and rocks along scrapping land away(erosion), they transport rocks along and finally drop(deposit) them in other places. The source, whilst the end of a river is the mouth.
