Overall comparisonAs a signal travels from one place to another it can pick up interference from it's surroundings or from other signals. The main difference between the two types of signal is its ability to 'clean' the signal - Analogue signals can't be cleaned, once it has gained interference and has weakened it is amplified, still containing the interference. Digital on the other hand can be 'cleaned' effectively as there is no speculation about whether a signal is On or Off and so the signal that is released is the same quality as the signal that is received. The other major difference between the two is the form that the signals take; Analogue signals are simple waves transmitted from place to place, whereas Digital is a series of electric pulses travelling along a wire (Like an Optical Fibre). |
