Organelles in plant and animal cells

Similarities

  • Nucleus - Contains the genetic material of the cell which control's its activities
  • Cell membrane - Controls the substances that go in and out of the cell
  • Cytoplasm - Gel-like substance where most of the cell's chemical reactions take place

Differences

  • Chloroplasts - Contain chlorophyll which absorbs sunlight for photosynthesis to occur
  • Cell wall - Rigid structure made of cellulose which surrounds the cell membrane. It supports the cell and strengthens it
  • Vacuole - Contains cell sap (a weak solution of sugars and salts) and it also helps support the cell

Overall comparison

Plant cells have ALL of the organelles that animal cells do, but they also contain a few that animal cells don't have
