Resentment towards Prussia

AdvantagesGetting Started

  • Austria and other states were jealous of economic strength
  • Austria were angry they were excluded from the Zollverein so were unlikely to work with Prussia
  • smaller German states (who resented Prussia) tended to side with Austria
  • religious differences caused further resentment

Disadvantages

  • many states relied on Prussia for protection
  • Austria did try to create their own customs union but other states stayed with the Zollverein which shows some support to Prussia.

Evaluation

important because it is impossible with lots of states denying to recognise Prussia as their leader
