MRI scans

Advantages

  • Has non ionising radiation - not as harmful as CAT/X-Rays
  • Good images of soft tissues
  • Produces a 3D image

Disadvantages

  • Machine less portable than X-rays
  • can only be used on a small range of people - e.g. cannot be used on people with pacemakers
  • Only a few MRI scanners available compared to X-ray machines

Evaluation

MRI scans -image produced by a rotating tube, a 3D image is produced on a screen so it can be viewed.It can be used when - investing soft tissue problems, diagnosis of brain tumours and diagnosis of cancerous tumours
