Morocco, 1905

Causes

BR and FR signed the ENTENTE CORDIALE in 1904 because they were both worried about GR's industrial power and GR ambitions for an empire.
Kaiser Wilhelm II engineered trouble in Morocco to test whether BR really would back FR up.

Effects

FR wanted to take over Morocco.
Kaiser Wilhelm visited the area and told the Moroccans that he supported their independence.
BR and other countries stood by FR and said that FR had special rights to a role in Morocco.

Overall summary

GR had hoped to split BR and FR up, but in fact the ENTENTE strengthened. BR now agreed to send troops to help FR if GR attacked it.
