Advantages
- Schools teach students the skills that are needed for later in working life
- As students are graded according to their ability , it creates a meritocratic systm; those who get higher grades end up with higher pay and higher status jobs
- Education is seen as a role in socialization; it teaches the values and norm of society.
- For society to run smoothly, education must be an agency of social control (enforcing obedience and punctuality)
- Students learn about society through education, they learn to accept the political system

Disadvantages
- Education reinforces the class system; it only benefits certain groups (Upper class). Lower-class students learn skills for lower-status occupations
- The education system does not provide equal opportunities for everyone. The schools and teachers reject working-class students leading them to under-perform.
- Education socialises student for the future, in which there are more powerful groups.
- Social control in schools is seen as reflecting social control in society where it only benefits powerful groups.
- Only certain political opions and ideas are tolerated in schools.
