Liquids vs. Gases

Liquids vs. Gases

Similarities

  • Can flow easily
  • Can be compressed to some extent
  • No definite shape

Differences

  • Liquids have a fixed volume & gases do not
  • When they flow, gases spread out everywhere while liquid molecules stay together
  • Gases are easily compressed, while liquids are barely compressed (if at all) unless lots of pressure is applied

Overall comparison

They are both fluids and can therefore flow. However, the particles are much closer together in liquids than in gases. Gases are more easily compressed than liquids and can spread everywhere with a changing volume. Neither liquids or gases have a definite shape.
