Light Vs Electron Microscopes

Similarities

Use light to form an image
Small and cheap
Magnify up to X2000 their image
Can be used almost anywhere
Produce a 2D image
Resolving power= 200nm

Differences

Use a beam of electrons to form an image
Large and expensive
Magnify things up too X2,000,000 their size
Got to be used in a room where humidity, pressure and temperature are controlled.
Resolving power= 0.2nm (the distance between 2 atoms)
TRANSMISSION ELECTRON MICOSCOPES= produce a 2D image with a high resolution and magnification
SCANNING ELECTRON MICROSCOPE= produces a 3D image with a high resolution but not as high magnification.

Overall comparison

Resolution= the ability to distinguish between two separate objects. Image size= magnification X real size.To find the magnification you need to multiply the eyepiece lens by the objective lens you are using.
