Legal personnel law

Advantages

  • Once you qualify to become a barrister, the wage that you can earn is very much worth the process of the training
  • You do gain several qualifications and a high amount of experience on the way which is good for CV's and helps you become better at your role
  • During the training you meet lots of experiences barristers which means you have more contacts to get in touch with in the future who may be able to help you

Disadvantages

  • The cost of the training to become a barrister is very high, costing over £40,000
  • The BPTC and Pupillage have limited space on them, so competition is high and if you do not make it, you have to try again which costs more money
  • The hours are very demanding when you are a barrister and because you are self-employed, taking holidays and sick days is much more difficult

Evaluation

Overall, becoming a barrister takes a long time, is a very competitive process and costs a lot. However, it can be argued that the wage you are on eventually is worth it and you receive a lot of qualifications and experience for future use.
