introduction to the impact of ICT

introduction to the impact of ICT

  • computers are good at performing calculations; they are reliable as they follow precise rules such as working out the brackets first. therefore they are great at performing repetitive tasks at speed such as calculating utitiy bills
  • can search through large quantities of data at speed
  • can control devices in unpleasent conditions such as those that are harmful to humans

  • a lot of people live in a digital world but lots don't creating a digital divide
  • with the wealth of information and services avaliable people want instant results
  • hardware limitations can slow processes down such as loading videos causing them to buffer
  • hardware often finds it hard to keep up with out demands- broadband speed is a lot slower in the UK than in other countries
  • as we start to build upon communication systems, we are finding we need more and more bandwidth to meet out needs, which is hard to provide as we don't always have the capacity or infrastructure to do so

ICt can have lots of advantages as it can make out lives generally simplier and easier, but our increasing demand for more advanced technology is putting a strain on the current hardware and resources.
