Several marchers were offered work after the march took place.
The government set up steel works in Jarrow for those who wanted work.

Disadvantages

Stanley Baldwin refused to see them nor accept their petition
Senior members issued a statement disapproving of all marchers
The marchers benefits were stopped during the march
Parliament accepted the petition but didn't debate it.
John Jarvis set up steel works in Jarrow. It only employed 200 people and gave the government an excuse to ignore them

Evaluation

The central government did nothing to help Jarrow in terms of employment. An official MP for Jarrow made a statement saying that "long-term unemployment has risen from 900 to 3,600". Even 50 years after the march unemployment hasn't improved.
