Causes

  • Diktat

Effects

  • The German delegation had to accept the terms that were imposed by the Allies. There was no room for negotiation.
  • The treaty made the Germans look weak and some of the Fourteen points did not feature in the Treaty of Versailles.
  • The treaty blamed Germany and its Kaiser but did not make any allowances when the Kaiser abdicated (1918)
  • This was not only a major humiliation for Germany but it also left Germany undefended.
  • This was not a big problem for the Germans but it show that they were inferior to the other European states.
  • Lebensraum, pride loss and economic loss
  • Distorted history and killed the pride
  • Isolated Germany

Overall summary

All of this caused the German's to have immense hatred and the want for revenge after the diplomatic failures of the Paris Conference. the Germans had loss all faith in the monarchs and the miserable attempts at democracy. this lead to the rise of the Nazi party and Hitler's Thrid Reich.
