- Golden rice will help to reduce cases of blindness in developing countries.

Disadvantages
- There are many regulations that golden rice will not be available to people most at risk from Vitamin A deficiency until 2012 or later.
- Golden rice has never undergone feeding trials on animals to check that it is safe for people to eat.
- Trying to deal with the vitamin A problem with a single GM solution is too limiting. Aiming for a balanced diet is a better solution to vitamin A deficiency.
