Using hard engineering to stop coastal erosion

Advantages

  • Can save people from having to move back from the coast
  • Saves time, because rather than having to continue to upkeep via beach nourishment, once built hard engineering will last for years.

Disadvantages

  • Is costly to run and maintain sea walls and groynes.
  • Looks ugly and highly unappealing for local residents.

Evaluation

Hard engineering is a good way of stopping / slowing down coastal erosion however, it can be costly to build and maintain and also it looks very bad most of the time.
