Opportunity Sampling

Advantages

  • Less time-consuming than other tecniques because time is not spent planning and using sophisticated systems for selection for particapants

Disadvantages

  • If people come from same locality then they may be similar in terms of their characteristics or they may have similar characteristics (e.g. all middle class)
  • The researcher may show bias when choosing particapants whether intentional or not (e.g. they know they will behave in a certain way).

Evaluation

Participants are chosen because they are convenient. This means they might have been selected because they were the only ones available at that time because they are in the locality or because they are known to the researcher. The researcher uses participants they he has the opportunity to use
