functionalist approach to education

Advantages

  • most schools and colleges aim to prepare young people for their future occupational roles
  • most would say that Britain is a meritocratic society
  • in legal terms, all individuals do have equal opportunities in education
  • school is a recognised agency of socialisation and social control- it has systems in place such as reports and behaviour books to promote discipline

Disadvantages

  • there are some 'free' schools which are restricted by curriculums
  • there are also faith schools which teach different norms and values
  • some people gain status or wealth by means other than education-such as inheritance, lottery wins and marriage
  • some students reject the rules laid down by their schools

Evaluation

I think that the functionalist approach presents sensible, full arguments that make sense and have weight to them. The against arguments that critics use are less sensible. Free schools are a recent development and people only gain inheritance, lottery wins and marriage through luck rather than judgement. It is a very small minority of students that reject the rules laid down by their schools.

Report

Functionalists consider education to be serving an imperative part of keeping up and proceeding with society. They consider  Write my paper for me education to be vital in light of the fact that it mingles the understudies, encourages them to grow new information, and discovers what aptitudes every understudy has with a specific end goal to enable them to wind up in a fitting employment for their capacities.
