Eye and The Camera comparison

Similarities

  • Both produce a real, inverted image with a magnification less than one
  • Both detect the light focused on them, a camera uses a CCD or film and the eye has a retina for this
  • Both contain a converging lens

Differences

  • A camera usually has a fixed focus, but the eye's is variable
  • An eye can adjust focus with the ciliary muscles that alters the lens thickness, whereas on a camera the lens positioncan be adjusted
  • An eye detects the image with light sensitive cells on the retina, a camera uses photographic film or CCD sensors
  • To control the brightness, in an eye the iris controls the width of the eye pupil; in a camera the aperture 'stop' can be adjusted

Overall comparison

Both capture real, inverted images but have different tools to do so
