Evaluation of Peterson and Peterson's Research (1959)

Advantages

Laboratory Experiment- So there is high levels of control, meaning no extraneous variables, and it can be replicated

Disadvantages

lacks ecological validity- asking people to recall trigrams is not very realistic to real life. Also perhaps people can recall real life memories better or maybe they might stay in the STM for longer.
Also, each participant saw lots of different trigrams, so this could have led to confusion or maybe the first trigram was the most realistic one of the trial.

Evaluation

To improve, they could get the participants to watch a video and then ask them questions to recall information and still use the same interference task with the same intervals.
