Advantages

  • Allows people to have children if they can't conceive naturally.

Disadvantages

  • Can cause multiple births which is seen as a risk and can have complications.
  • The success rate is low.
  • Can be emotionally and physically stressful.
  • IVF is an expensive process
  • Some people believe that you should adopt a child rather than bringing another child into the world.
  • Harvested eggs can go unused so are stored in the laboratories. After time these are destroyed which some people believe that it is unethical as you are destroying a potential life.
  • Genetic testing of the human embryos is accessible which may lead to the selection of particular characteristics that they could choose.

Evaluation

I believe that IVF is something people should consider if they want a child and are infertile. It is an expensive process however which may mean that people won't do it as they can't afford it which they would then consider another option. Many people do this yearly however with a success rate that is low the expense weighs up.
