evaluating the issues with making ethanol with hydration

Advantages

  • 100% ethanol
  • avoids use of plants that are used as food
  • continuous process
  • No carbon dioxide produced
  • not labor intensive

Disadvantages

  • uses ethene which is from crude oil- non renewable
  • high temperature and pressure
  • Lots of energy needed
  • not carbon neutral
