Educational Approach to Health Promotion

Educational Approach to Health Promotion

Advantages

  • Enables people to make informed choices about their health behaviour by providing knowledge and information which as a result allow the service user to develop the necessary skills in order to allow the person to make better decisions.
  • The educational approach is not similar to the behavioural change approach as the educational approach does not try and persuade or motivate service users in a particular direction.
  • The outcome is the client's voluntary choice which could be different from the one preferred by the health promoter.

Disadvantages

  • This approach assumes that an increase in knowledge changes attitudes which results in a behaviour change.
  • voluntary behaviour change may be restricted by social and economic factors.
  • Health related decision can be very complex.

Evaluation

An increase in knowledge is easy to measure using methods such as exams or pre and post questionnaires however knowledge alone is insufficient to change behaviours as knowledge is rarely translated into behaviours.

Report

Thank you for the helpful article. In college, I often missed classes due to illness, which negatively affected my grades. I had to use student services https://edubirdie.com/pay-for-homework where you can pay for homework to improve your grades before graduation. Health is a very important part of modern life and it should be carefully monitored.
