Advantages
- A person who spends time on one task quickly become highly skilled in it
- No time is wasted moving from one job to another
- Capital equipment can be used continuously in production (e.g. the machinery on a motor vehicle production line)
- Less time is required to train workers
- There is more choice of jobs for workers and they can specialise in tasks they are most suited to.
|
Disadvantages
- Repetition creates monotony and boredom.
- There could be a high turnover of staff and increased recruitment costs
- Could lead to structural unemployment as staff are replaced by machinery
- If one group of workers goes on strike, it can cause a halt in production.
