Evaluation

Delegated legislation is a useful method of passing law when Parliament lacks the time to pass all the legislation needed each year. It is quick and therefore useful in emergencies, but mainly criticised for its undemocratic roots in that sometimes, law can be made by people who are unelected, and this is considered unpalatable by many. There is no doubt that the expertise involved in passing legislation this way means that law is more relevant but, even though controls are available, these are not used effectively to ensure that no abuse of power takes place.
