Critical Path Analysis

Advantages

invovles managers in detailed planning which helps reduce the risk of delays
resources needed for each activity may be made available at the appropriate time, reducing costs
time can be saved by operating certain activitiers simultaneously
the information from CPA assists managers in making high quality decisions

Disadvantages

complex activities may be impossible to represent accurately on a network
the project still requires management because external factors may change
CPA relies on estimates for the expected duration of activities - if these are innacurrate the whole process may be invalidated

Evaluation

a method of calculating and illustrating how complex projects can be completed as quickly as possible
