Cornish Rebellion, 1497

Causes

  • Tax raised to defend the country against the Scots.
  • People in Cornwall did not believe that they should pay to help defend against a threat that was so far from them.

Effects

  • Henry learnt to avoid expensive wars
  • Negotiations were needed with James IV of Scotland

Overall summary

The rebellion was again caused by tax, but this helped to teach Henry that he should look to avoid expensive wars and that he needed to negotiate peace with Scotland.
