Overall comparisonBoth of the two characters are different in their own way. For example, Mrs Lyons is evil and nasty unlike Mrs Johnstone who is kind and caring. Mrs Lyons has no children unlike Mrs Johnstone who has loads of children. The other two differences we found out between the two characters was Mrs Lyons is manipulative and Mrs Johnstone is gullible. However, their was also similarities between them both such as Mrs Lyons and Mrs Johnstone both explore the theme of social class such as working class which is Mrs Johnstone and middle class which is Mrs Lyons even through she might class herself as upper class because, Mrs Lyons cares more about her social image then other people feelings. This could also suggest that Mrs Lyons is selfish. I also think both of them could be jealous of each other because, Mrs Lyons has money so she gets all the nice and rich things in life but deep down she really wants a child but she cannot have one. But Mrs Johnstone has lots of children who she loves dearly but she can't be able to provide for them because she hasn't got any money. So maybe they are both jealous of each other so will their jealousness so to speak course Mickey and Edward deaths??? My final opinion is that they both want something however they can't get it. So maybe Willy Russell is trying to tell the audience that we should be grateful of what we get in life. |
