Advantages

Can't grasp aspects of lang until ready - supported by stages of development
Produce utterances which increase in complexity as they work towards mastering a rule

Disadvantages

With cognitive difficulties can still manage to use lang beyond their understanding
Acquire lang without having an understanding of it, especially in the early stages

Evaluation

This is supported by Brown's morphemes and Bellugi's stages for pronoun for and question formation. However, the 'fis' phenomenon suggests children's cognitive understanding can be present but physical impact still impacts their ability to use lang.
