Closed Questionnaires

Advantages

  • few set of questions to answer to choose from (reliable=repeatable)
  • quick and easy to complete= easier to compare
  • practical consideration=less costly to analyse
  • enhances the generalisation of the results

Disadvantages

  • different parents  of different classes + ethnicities, may interpret it differently (elaborated/restricted code)
  • might not agree with any of the answers they have to choose from, **** choose the closest one
  • younger children require more time than adults to understand  the questions
  • limited answers= cannot say everything they want
  • many options confuse the respondent

Evaluation

It useful to some extent, because it is reliable (repeatable) + cheap, but limited.Any method can be better with triangulation (after research) and/or methodological research (during research)
